= Less than 100 days until the EcoMobility World Festival =

Last Thursday marked the 100 day countdown to the kickoff of EcoMobility World Festival and EcoMobility 2013 Suwon congress, taking place this September in Suwon, South Korea. The city of Suwon – home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Hwaseong Fortress - promises to deliver the first real-life example of an ecomobile neighborhood in action.

For an entire month, the residents of Haenggung-dong neighborhood will adopt an ecomobile lifestyle, one which prioritizes socially inclusive and environmentally-friendly transport options, including walking, cycling, and wheeling. This unique event, co-organized by ICLEI and UN-Habitat, will invite participants to immerse themselves in an ecomobile environment, demonstrating the benefits that can be realized in urban areas by rethinking the fundamentals of transport systems.

The EcoMobility 2013 Suwon congress will take place at the Festival from 01 – 04 September, providing a unique opportunity to attend the only transportation conference to combine challenging discussions with a real-life implementation of an ambitious EcoMobility project. Congress call for contributions closes on 31 May!

By offering an engaging program of congress seminars, workshops, an ecomobile vehicle exhibition, vehicle test tracks and a spectacular display of Korean cultural events, the Festival will serve as a global showcase of future mobility for NGOs, businesses, universities, cyclist and pedestrian associations and governments.

'''Amaray''' is a magazine developed by the GIZ Energising Development Project in Peru (EnDev-Peru). The publication seeks to promote access to basic energy needs, especially in rural and isolated areas. Amaray contains articles and photographs that present private and public actions, international cooperation initiatives, interviews with experts, and a photographic portfolio, among other things.

= IOB Study: Renewable Energy - Access and Impact =

The new IOB study on Renewable Energy - Access and Impact presents a comprehensive overview of evaluative literature and reports regarding the impact of renewable energy interventions on the livelihoods of end-users, being either individuals, households or communities in rural areas and the urban periphery in developing and middle income countries.

The interventions encompass the use of improved cooking stoves, biogas digesters, solar home systems (including solar lamps), and hydro powered mini-grids. Some conclusions included are that the impact of interventions in energy sources and devices is determined by human rather than by technological design features. And while improved stoves and (renewable) electricity have a positive impact on health, the impact on the environment is at best modest.
