The choice of the appropriate technology will depend on several factors such as composition of the wastewater, availability of land, availability of funds and expertise. Different operation and maintenance options will have to be considered with respect to sustainable plant operation, the use of local resources, knowledge, and manpower. |

In order to reduce or avoid further deterioration of the environmental conditions in these countries, the wastewater has to be treated.
