[edit] How to Shape Future Africa-EU Relations in the Energy Sector
More than 450 African and European political and business leaders, high-level experts and heads of international energy institutions gathered in Addis Ababa from 11-13 February 2014 to discuss how to shape future Africa-EU relations in the energy sector.
During the closing session of the Ministerial Segment participants approved the “Addis Ababa Communiqué", which defines the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP)’s priorities and vision for African-European collaboration on energy affairs. The Communiqué contains nine recommendations for accelerating access to sustainable energy on both continents and achieving the AEEP Targets, as well as four key messages to be forwarded to African and EU Heads of State and Government at the EU-Africa Summit in April 2014.
The Second High-Level Meeting of the AEEP was jointly hosted by the Ethiopian Government, the Governments of Austria, Germany and Mauritius, and the African and European Co-Chairs of the AEEP: the African Union Commission (AUC) and the European Commission.
- The summary of the meeting is now available here.
[edit] Register now for the Terra Watt Prize

[edit] Clean Cooking Loan Fund Launched
The Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, the Gold Standard Foundation and Nexus Carbon For Development have announced their collaboration to create a 'Clean Cooking Loan Fund,' which aims to leverage private sector investments into clean cooking technologies.
The new fund aims to boost commercial investment in the market for clean cookstoves, the absence of which has to date been a barrier to market development for entrepreneurs and others. Specifically, while clean cookstove projects would normally qualify for as carbon offset projects, the certification process and lag time of up to two years before revenues from such projects are seen makes them impossible for many entrepreneurs to access. The fund is specifically designed to address this problem and to take on the financial risks associated with the carbon process by offering a loan to project developers.
Initially the fund is being financed with 290.000 USD from the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, with an additional one million USD in donor funding currently being sought.

[edit] Draft Report on Indicators for Sustainable Development
The Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) presented their new draft report "Indicators for Sustainable Development Goals" for public consultation. The report gives a framework of 100 indicators for post-2105, including several indicators for carbon emissions, energy, and climate-related resource management. The indicators are based on the 10 goals and 30 targets presented in the Action Agenda for Sustainable Development. This report is at an early stage. The SDSN seeks comments by the public in order to improve and complete the proposed indicator framework.
