New: "Productive Use" Portal on energypedia
Using renewable energies for income and welfare enhancing activities is an increasingly discussed topic within the renewable energy debate. While lightning is vital, bringing renewable energies to a productive use is an important step towards sustainable development of communities.
As a result, energypedia extends its thematic scope to the new productive use portal and invites all users to contribute.

Call for Expressions of Interest - "Understanding Sustainable Energy Solutions in Developing Countries"
This call for expressions of interest is addressed to organisations, especially those from developing countries, who wish to bid under a major new research call on understanding sustainable energy solutions in developing countries.
Up to £12.5 million will be available under this call, from the UK Research Councils’ Energy programme, the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC). Successful organisations will be invited to take part in a short development workshop in Nairobi (12nd - 14th December 2012), to refine the priority research challenges around energy in the context of international development and help facilitate collaborative bids.
Closing date for expressions of interest: Friday 28th September 2012
We are particularly keen that researchers from developing countries submit expressions of interest, including those from recognised research institutions, or other not-for-profit or private sector organisations with a credible and relevant research capacity.
More details and application form can be found here.
