The Access to Energy Institute (A2EI) is a non-profit R&D think tank that supports product development for the off-grid sector. With one R&D lab in Berlin, Germany and one customer research lab in Arusha, Tanzania, A2EI aims to be the place where off-grid innovation thrives.
About The Role
The A2EI is looking for an experienced and motivated data scientist to help with our SKGS ("Solar Killed The Generator Star") project. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with Python, including the commonly used data analyses packages (numpy, pandas, matplotlib, seaborn, ipython notebooks, etc.) as well as collaborating in a team using versioning tools (git).
He/she will be experienced in the data science workflow (pre-processing, cleaning, exploring, and finally summarizing and visualizing), and able to clearly report findings to stakeholders.
The main task of the Data Scientist will be an analytical one, where the candidate will be tasked with regularly monitoring and checking for data-quality issues within large amounts of usage data from our SKGS systems.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Carry out pre-processing of structured and unstructured data
Automate collection processes
Identify valuable data sources
Analyze large amounts of information to detect trends and patterns
Present information in a clear and structured way, both orally and with the help of data visualization tools
Collaborate with the engineering and the product development team
Your Profile
5+ years proven experience as a data scientist or data analyst
Experience in using versioning tools (git)
Experience in data extraction (e.g. API, hardware configurations)
Knowledge of Python (numpy, pandas, matplotlib, seaborn, ipython notebooks, etc.); familiarity with R, SQL and Java is an asset
Analytical mind and business acumen
Skills in statistics and algebra
Problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and presentation skills
